Riding the brain waves.
Clinical neurology demostrates that humans have four mental states – 2 while sleeping and 2 when awake. Delta waves occur slowly – one wave per second when in deep sleep. Theta waves are roughly five waves per second when dreaming. The two awake states/waves are alpha and beta. Alpha is aware, attentive, yet relaxed which is accomplished during meditation with eyes closed. Beta is the hustle-and-bustle state; unfortunately where we live most of our daily lives.
Alpha is where you want to be. Alert, focused, yet calm. So how do you get there?
After 90-minutes in a true calm, peaceful state of mind you start to generate significant alpha activity. Just like the Buddhist monks…yet they can achieve that state faster and some with their eyes open. Alternatively, you could drink white tea!
Within minutes of white tea consumption, a person can achieve alert brain wave pattern. White tea in particular is processed less than black tea and made from young leaves (green tea is from mature leaves). Additionally, in terms of cancer prevention, the phytonutrients in white tea is more potent and shown to protect against DNA damage in vitro against PhIP, a specific cooked meat carcinogen.
Not only can tea (white and green) help fight cancer, but it surely is a catalyst for relaxing brain activity. This may explain why tea is the world’s single most popular beverage after water.
